Author AC Heatpump gone crazy? Help, please

My wife and I had a heatpump installed last winter. Our utility bills
immediately went up. Since the summer began we are now paying three times
what we did before for electricity. The person who installed it says
nothing is wrong with it and he can't understand our utility bills - he says
they're due to something besides the heat pump. It seems to run all the
time and never really gets the temperature down as much as we would like.
Also, there is a LOT of condensation on the inside at the blower. Can
anybody offer any suggestions?
Thank you

Humm filters clogged? Coolant low (Mind you this is a heat pump there
has to be an air conditioner somewhere near by with a coil.)? Last time
i had problems with my heat pump the darn central AC unit lost some
freon and Iced up the air filters were clogged to the hilt with crap.

You might want to have a second person look at it and see if it is
installed right.

You need another independent on-site analysis. Condensation within
the airflow should occur on the coils and be plumbed outside or to a
drain. Condensation on the outside of the cabinet can be normal,
especailly if that part of the unit is not within the conditioned
space.

Cooling is measured as a temperature drop between the return air and
the air coming out of a register. That difference should be about 20
degrees F. If it is less than that, there are a number of possible
problems.

If the unit runs nearly constantly, look inside at the coil. If the
coil is frozen that could cause some of the problems you describe. A
coil can freeze if it has restrictions (dirt or corrosion) inside,
improper gas pressures, restricted airflow, etc.

Another slim possibility is that the strip heaters were wired
incorrectly and are working against the AC.

You don't provide enough information to make a more detailed guess.

Wow, could be a lot of things. Anything from a duct being blocked, to the
control wires from the thermostat being wired improperly. Without actually
seeing it, and since the problem has been going from day one, I would guess
that the control wiring is incorrect. For example, if the backup heat
(electric strip heat or gas heat) is running all the time, it would have
caused you heating bills to go up, and it would cause the heat pump to not
provide enough cooling in summer.

Good look with it. Suggest that you get another contractor in to diagnose
the problem.

time to call in the competion and get a second and third opinion.
I suspect the original outfit was the cheapest bidder and now you will
pay the difference and more to get things right....

Sounds like your dual thermostat contacts could be wired backwards.

Most likely cause is a big air leak in the ductwork someplace, or it was not
sealed correctly around the existing ductwork.
