I read a study that a local (Phoenix, Arizona, USA) power company did
that it is difficult to recoup your investment on an attic fan.

That is something I can wholeheartedly agree with. I did that on a
portion of my roof that is flat that is over my laundry room -- felt the
difference IMMEDIATELY inside the house. I plan on doing the whole roof
soon as the weather cools off a bit.
