Author "double bent heat exchanger" what is it?
phlegmatico@yahoo.com

as an avid amateur in the patent-searching game, I'm having trouble
locating info about an item I saw in a current Carrier Corporation
brochure... "state of the are high technology double bent heat
exchanger". The tiny picture shows what I would describe as two
parabolic-ish shaped structures, attached to each other open-end to
open-end at top and bottom.

Anyone know what the real name is, in patent literature or in parts
call-out? and what the alleged advantage is?

It's not really anything new/novel. When you have a rotory fan, it is
common pratice to have the air enter into the fan enclosure from one side,
and put the heat exchanger in the air path. To get more air flow in a
system, some folks have long designed the intake to replace *two* sides and
put a heat exchanger in each. When viewed from above, it *looks* like your
heat-exchanger is 'bent' around the corner.

So now we have 'double-bent'. It's just three small heat-exchanger
sections, with the coolant interconnected, and arranged at two angles.
Looked at from the top, it looks like your traditional heat exchanger is
bent in two places instead of one. Hence the phrase, 'double-bent'.

Provides more area for the incoming air to flow through, so the air velocity
is a bit lower and spends more time in the vicinity of the heat exchanger.
No new miricle, just cramming more heat-exchanger into the same box.

If you took the time to read the links I provided, you'd see that is also
what Panasonic, Carrier, and others say also. Why don't you Google about
them and figure it out for yourself.
