I'm looking for design info, parameters, equations, or whatever,
for a generator suitable for use with a Savonius rotor without
having to resort to gears or pulleys. Basic design similar to
what's shown at http://www.re-energy.ca/t-i_windbuild-2.shtml
(coils and permanent magnets) only bigger.

Anybody know where to look?

You could try either Picoturbine or Hugh Piggotts page.
They both have free plans.
