capacity of lead acid battery

| Hi,
I am wondering what is the charge capacity of a typical lead-acid
battery. I want to store a total of 500 A-hr in 4-5 batteries, so I want
to calculate how many cells I would need. I would appreciate any advice.

If you buy DEEP CYCLE batteries, they have AH ratings printed on them.

| You need to specify the voltage and application as you can find single
lead acid batteries that are 500 AH (or larger), but they may weigh 500
+ lbs. The application is important because some batteries like
different discharge regimes.
The little 2 x 3 x 6" SLA's are about 12V @ 7 AH.
A typical 12V car battery is typically in the 100 AH range.

Incorrect - they can withstand greater depth of charge than SLI
(Starting, lighting, ignition) batteries and deliver higher
instantaneous loads for starting than deep cycle batteries.
They are INFERIOR to standard deep cycle batteries for standby use.
A MARINE battery is also (generally) built with higher vibration
resistance than standard SLI batteries and most deep cycle(stationary
application) batteries.

Best way to go would be 6 6v golf cart batteries. They withstand repeated
deep cycling substantially better than marine batteries. That would give you
on the order of 555 MAh and 12v for $300. They will probably outlast marine
batteries by a year or 2 as well.

Or use Optima Yellow tops. Much better battery .
If you have OODLES of money, look at Hawker batteries -

Filtronica has a 12V solar battery (MK US2299U) that has 225AH capacity for
$106.68 including shipping.

Note that you may not want to use all of the capacity of your battery
bank, as doing so may significantly reduce your battery's lifespan.
Some would have you use only 50% of your capacity, but I wouldn't have
much trouble going to 75% or so if you knew what you were doing.
