Author Efficiencies of Solar reflector systems?

I read in business week magazine about solar plants that use reflected sun
onto a boiler to produce electricity. I think they were 2.5 KW per unit. How
do the efficiencies of phovoltaics compare to these solar boilers?

PV is about 15%. Rule of thumb is about 1KW per sq meter is coming
down on it.

Found the answer to my own question in Business Week magazine, 12 Sep'05
issue.
Solar-thermal dish generator systems operate at 30% while your typical PV
cell operates at less than 10%.

Than what or whose? You provided no context so we know.

I knew without even checking that Bob was using Google. The new Google
interface does not offer you a chance to quote text so all posts show up totally
out of context unless you take a few seconds to "get it right". There is an
easy "work around" that lead to a good posting style. Just cut and paste a
snippet of text from the post you are responding to, add quotation marks and the
name of the OP, and then put your comment on the bottom.

Google seems to do a good job of putting them in context. It lets you
sort by date or by thread sequence. I have read newsgroups sine '81 on
my 300 baud homemade modem... I read then on a local bbs that got a
feed from one of the guys in the Central Florida Computer Society that
had a dialin to Univ Of Central Fla. I always used aol as an ISP cause
I could get it at home and work... but they dropped newsgroups and I
started using google. Time marches On! Change is good!

We're not all _using_ Google, Bob. Their UI doesn't meet my needs on
many requirements.

Fair enough, but if you don't give a bit of context, nobody knows what
or who you're talking to, unless they happen to use exactly the same
setup you do.

NASA uses PV's that have a 15% efficiency but I doubt the home hobbiest can
afford them.

I have this one more datapoint.... Cypress semiconductor bought
Sunpower who claim on their site to have a 20% process and are getting
ready to spin off in an IPO. I'd like to get in on that! Sorry about
using Google folks. I'll try to quote where important for context.

So can you give me a ball park price on 1 square foot of this new PV?

GH:

=============================================
A good deal on PV panels is $5 a watt. Was $4 fairly recently, but
seems to be getting a little tighter. Installed systems seem to come in
around $10 a watt. Check out the Windsun site in Arizona

Thanks for the website. I'm sure I'll order from them in the future.
