Natural gas fueled fuel cell unit for the home. GE has been working
on
one for years. Been saying that units for test installations will be
ready in a
year or so. Just like they have been saying for the last couple of
years.
The problem is that the reformer ( the thing that converts the
natural
gas to hydrogen that the fuel cell uses) gets used up after a year or
so,
and has to be replaced. and it isn't cheap.
Also, whispergen is a trade name here in the US for a line of diesel

generators in a sound deadening enclosure. Very popular in the movie
industry.

Isn't the WisperGen a Stirling engine?
http://www.whispergen.com/main/stirlingcycle/

Ceramic Fuel Cells Limited (Melbourne, Australia) have a Natural Gas
powered Solid Oxide Fuel Cell that they are now doing field tests with :
http://www.cfcl.com.au/Links/CFCL_F...lier_050622.pdf

The are testing the unit with utilities Powerco (New Zealand), EWE
(Germany) and Powerco (Tasmania, Australia)

You are correct, one of the problems is that the cell stack (also used
for internal reforming) has a limited life.
