I'd hate to be the one who discovers what happens when you pee in the
shower.

On the other hand, recycling this "grey" water for non contact
(and non drinking) uses is common enough. The classic second
loop is for flushing a toilet.

Relatively painless, not horrendously expensive, and gives
you a modest reduction in water use.

I wonder if it works in such a way as to allow the same batch of
heated water to be used over and over. The usual shower spends a lot
of energy heating water up to 100F, and then dumps 98% of the heat
right down the drain. If this one just heats up a small batch of
water and recircs it, it seems like the energy saving might be more
important than the water saving?

(some of the long-term readers here, you just *know* I have to say this ;-)

Recovering energy from the hot water used in a shower can be pretty easy.
Using a novel heat exchanger, a lot of the energy that 'goes down the drain'
can be recovered by installing one of these. I've had one for several years
now and am quite happy with its performance.

The university of Waterloo has done extensive usage tests on this unit and
are impressed with the results.
