Hi,
I have a solar panel, and an 85Amp-Hour battery. So far in doing tests
(extension cord run to a few lights) it seems to be capable of running
my lights downstairs in my house.

Since my lights are mostly all plug in, I was thinking I could run some
roam ex cord up through the floor at several places on the wall, put an
outlet in, and then run those cords in an inverter.

The inverter has a breaker on it, so in theory if something shorted the
inverter should trip. What are other people's thoughts on this?

You did not mention the size of your solar panel; important
information!. I hope your system includes a charge controller or your nice
battery will eventually be toast.

You could do that, or you could install one of these
http://www.nbmc.com/emergen/6-5001.html and save yourself a bunch of
trouble. It will also allow you too connect an emergencey generator
directly to your house wiring.

Good luck

Solar panel is a 20Watt...so far charging battery fine.. but I may need
to get another one as I hook more lights to it. (Using CFB's now). And
yes.. there is a charge controller!!!!

Ok.. quick question on this. Am I reading this right in that you would
run your circuits through this instead of through your main breaker?
This would allow you to (in this case) hook the solar power up to it....
or run off generator (not much use to me for just lights.. especially if
the system is solar :P)

Ok, after watching the video that's honkin' awesome! Now the question
is... can I wire my solar system into that.. as the solar system puts
out 120 but it looks like the plug for that is a hubbel lock 240?

You can put out any voltage you want on the plug(within its limits) . It
just locks for safety and the cord is ripped accidently unplugged

Right... but here's the question.
It looks like it accepts 220.. and then load balances (3 on one, 3 on
the other). The PV system gives off 120volts. So I either have to
only power 3, or figure out some unique way to power all 6 (I don't need
220 for what I'll be running)...

Thoughts?

You do not specify the inverter.

Many of the smaller inverters are not UL listed for a good reason: The
neutral is not grounded and grounding the neutral to the battery (either
polarity) will destroy the inverter. Most of these state "Not to be
connected to building electrical systems".

Yes, but you must be sending me a bad e-mail address. It is this one:
matth@nowhere.com . My responses to you bounce.
