It's not cynicism to figure that fuel cells will never amount to much in the
global picture. It's just not an efficient way to store energy. Dinosaurs
had it all worked out when they converted themselves into oil & coal :-)

I'm sure there will be applications for "hydrogen technology" but in the
long run the best hydrogen source is nuclear power generation - what are
the odds we'll create new nuclear stations just to produce H2? Now, if we
get fusion working, it may well be useful - but even so, most of the power
generated will be distributed as electricity.

btw, the cynical take on "three-year project" is that that's what they
always say. I've owned stock in Ballard Power Systems for over 10 years,
and these breakthroughs are always just around the corner.
