I first learned about the Stirling engine from the How It Works
Encyclopedia. I thought a fluidyne was a solar water pump. There is a
type that is a generator, and the torque producing type. Philips of
Holland made some engines for cars.
I think that a good welder could scrounge some parts and produce an
engine without doing any casting/
