Author Opinions on the ExelTech 1100xp inverter
...........Rob

Hi all, I am thinking of buying the ExelTech 1100xp, but before I
layout the
$748us for one thought I'd ask. Checking past mssgs it seems to be a
good piece of kit.

In fact "$" is shorthand for "US" (initially written superimposed)
meaning "US dollar". You're redundant, then.

OTOH, some later users of "dollar" for their unit of currency will need
to have it identified, since theirs is a non-standard use of a
long-term standard. (E.g. $(Aus).)

He is polite. It needs to be identified the same as the
weird US measurement units.

$ is the symbol for most country's dollar and also
Mexico's peso and nuevo peso.

Even the number counting system is modified by the US
and needs to be specified.

Huh? Clearly $ is shorthand for "Canadian Dollar".

I expect Americans to assume that they're the be-all and end-all of this
planet, but complaining that US$ is redundant when posting to an
international newsgroup is just plain arrogant.

In the words of the author you are probably parroting, "check your
premises."

According to infoplease:
Irish immigrant Oliver Pollock moved to New Orleans, then part of the
Spanish Empire, where he became a wealthy plantation owner and trader.
He did most of his business in Spanish pesos, which he abbreviated
with an elaborately scripted intertwined "p" and an "s."

During the American Revolution, Pollock bought supplies for the army,
sending billing records to Robert Morris, a member of the Continental
Congress and the primary financier of the American Revolution. Morris
kept using Pollock's "p" and "s" abbreviation, which evolved into the
dollar sign used today.

There are a number of competing theories to the origin, some of which
are revealed at:
<http://www.ex.ac.uk/~RDavies/arian/dollar.html>

Rand was the promoter of the US BS. If you stop and consider it, such
an abbreviation would be on all US currency and coinage if true, and
the base of the U would not be broken - else we might also have E
pleiiribiis iiniim. It isn't. Rand was a romantic writer. Most of
what she wrote was pure stilted fiction, based on highly romanticised
contemporary or historical events, (Northern Pacific RR, Colorado
narrow gauge, Frank Lloyd Wright, etc.) and her "philosophy"
discounted. One of her primary achievements was turning the U.S. into
a nation of egoist pricks.

Most of the Knowledgable Folks use the $x.xxUS when posting...it
clarifies the monitary unit of exchange.....

Knowledgeable Folks would use US$nnn.nn (or CDN$, etc), that being the
format that any multi-national accounting system would use, but I'm
flexible on any format that makes it clear. I'm even capable of guessing
what unit a poster likely means if he leaves it off - I just get a tetch
worked up when somebody objects to being clear.

It's just so hard to eliminate the concept of the Ugly American, when some
people insist on perpetuating it.

So now that the grammer police have straightened out the money issue,
Any opinions on the inverter line from Exeltech?

If nobody responded to your request it usually means nobody _has_ any
opinions. If we've got opinions, we're not shy to express them.

If people are going to get obnoxious about someone's use of $ - with or
without an identifying US - other people are going to get upset about it,
and I'm not going to apologize for my part. This isn't grammer [sic]
police, it's just about expecting a modicum of politeness.

I've had a 500W Exeltech running for about 7 years. Minor problems
with the on/off/breaker needing to be cleaned a couple of times. Fan
(which probably runs about 50% of the time in my application), pulls
dusty air through case gumming up unsealed switch. The only other
problem is that the fan died (just recently). I haven't got around to
checking out the unit since then. Overall I've been very happy with
it.

Can't speak from the user side, but over the past several years we have sold
hundreds, and have never had a single warranty or repair call on them.

Very good unit, not like the Chinse junk.
Exeltech and Xantrex prosine products are the best.

I can't comment on either of those, but I might have to call you out for a
duel. :-) The Outbacks are _very_ good, but the smallest is quite a bit
bigger than 1100W. Now if you'd said "...are the best in that size", I
couldn't quibble.

I bought 1 from Wayne at WindSun 6 years ago, so add me to the positive
owner column.

I used the 1100xp for 24/7 for 5 years with out one problem.

A year or so ago there were a ton of MX-Series 48 volt rack systems being
sold on eBay. I bought 3 systems. (about 10KV of hardware with 100%
redunency).

I was down in Dallas at the time, so I called Exceltech and asked to have
some options installed.

They installed the options, tuned up the systems and ran the systems thru
thier load bank tests.

Took 2 days and cost $234.00......

Yeah, they are a great company which a great product......

I can't comment on their xp line, but my 250si has been powering my
compact flourescents and ceiling fans for 12 years now, with no problems
at all.

regards,
Joe
