I think you're generally correct, but I think history will look at the
1950-2000 period as the golden age with things going downhill after
that. That doesn't mean the seeds of destruction weren't being
planted, but times were good.

I spent the 60s foolin around having a lot of fun. In the 70's & 80's
I worked for a Steel plant making good union wages and took an early
retirement. Then in late 80's and 90's, I went back to school and
worked as an electronic engineer during the tech boom and made a lot
of money in the stock market when it went crazy. Then I retired. Now I
buy stuff at Walmart and on the internet with pocket change.

It's been a good ride. I was born at the right time. I don't have
anything to complain about, but those days are gone.

The turning point which I believe marks the end of the American Empire
is the Viet Nam war. The first time the US went to war for oil.

Still, I know what you mean, I was born in San Diego in 1950. America
was booming. Unfortunately it was also the point where the people lost
sight of American values and greed took over. The more they had, the
more they wanted.

We were practically neighbors. I was born in La Mesa in '53 and grew up in
El Cajon. I was a fixture at La Jolla Cove in the summers around '65-'67.

As for America the whole things disgusts me now. Instead of colonizing Mars
and Venus or wherever they put the technology into BOOM-BOOM cars and bigger
TVs and cel phones. The future is not anything like what I imagined it
would be (the future being the year 2000). I never imagined that abortion
would become legal and here in CA you are some kind of scumbag if you think
it's wrong. What's next? Legal child pornography and prostitution?
Nothing would surprise me any more.
