| what's the best way to preserve a normal car-battery hooked up to a regular
honda backup generator? I do run the generator once a month but have noticed
the battery sulfates (is that the proper term) at the positive terminal when
in storage in the garage. have installed heavy-duty coated posts and the
small felt-pads over the posts and under the contacts
should the negative terminal be disconnected or something else or not worry
about the crud that accumulates on the terminal?

| Get a "battery tender". Don't leave a trickle charger attached to battery.
Trickle chargers will sulfate battery (internal scaling of battery plates)
in no time. Clean the crud off battery post and cable. Cover with vaseline.
Air is the enemy. The felt pads have some chemical to inhibit the corrosion.
I never found them to be worth the time/money. Running the gennie every
month is good to keep the rats & roaches chased out. Run it for about an
hour. Run the carb dry. Drain gas out and put it into your car. Always use
fresh gas in these small engines. My Honda went 18 years before some SOB
stole it. James

The Battery Tender is here: http://www.batterytender.com/ The Jr. model is
probably all you need. This is NOT just a trickle charger, it is specially made
to be connected to your battery 24/365. I ruined a bunch of batteries before I
figured out that cheap chargers were costing me big bucks.
For that corrosion you mentioned, I use petroleum jelly.
