An induction generator is, almost by definition, synced to the grid.
yeah, I know, an induction can be made to work stand-alone with
sufficient capacitive reactance. Mine won't be that way. I'll start
the motor as a pump, open the gate valve and let it start generating.

If I were to operate stand-alone I'd go with the PM
alternator/rectifier/battery/inverter architecture. That way I don't
have to worry about turbine speed. I'd dump power only as a last
resort after my loads were fed and I was backfeeding the most power I
could back to the grid.

Not only no but HELL NO. First off, I consider it both wrong and
immoral to use the force of government to steal money from others
under the guise of taxes and give it to me just so I can play. I know
"everybody does it" but that doesn't mean I'm going to.

Second, "we're from the government and we're here to help you". Ever
heard that one? I want government as far away from me as I can keep
'em. My lake is spring-fed and thus doesn't fall under any public
waterway regulations. I've checked. It's mine to with as I like.

I still have a lot of engineering work to go before I start
construction but maybe in a year or two... Getting the road cut in is
the first step. Then the power plant and then the underground house.
I need to measure the flow during the dry season to see what my
minimum capacity is going to be. I think that I'll probably end up
with more than once pump/induction generator so that I can take
advantage of seasonal flows, in effect "banking" KWH with the utility
for the dry season. I have a source for almost free industrial pumps
so it won't cost much to experiment.
