That's a common result, with other kinds of injuries too. I had an
accident that thoroughly shattered one of the bones in my arm. The arm
was a very strange shape, and rapidly turned blue from internal
bleeding, but I didn't feel any pain from it. The only things that hurt
were some muscles in other parts of my body that had been pulled in the
accident.

A while later, the arm began to hurt, but by that time I had been given
some good pain-killers. I don't remember much of the rest of that
day...
