Actually, I'm not using a newsreader at all. All I have here is a dumb
terminal, with which I dial up an old-fashioned "Bulletin Board
System". The BBS's software takes care of all the interfacing with the
network, which I agree *should* include handling message threads
properly. But it doesn't. I have made enquiries as to whether this can
be fixed, but the answer seems to be no.
