Other than its small size, what would lead you to believe that
it would flatten out faster than any other car on the road?
Is this simply a preconceived bias against small vehicles or
is there some experience behind it?

The Smart car, and many other small cars have very good crash test
ratings, better the a great many large vehicles.
There is a video out of smart car hitting a concrete wall head on at 70
miles an hour and the doors still open.
