I am starting a new home automation system, but what is the best software? I
have been recommended HAL2000. Any suggestions.

The BEST that fits you.
Some Big names are
CQC
HomeSeer
Hal
Try them all and ask questions then. You say nothing as to what your wanting
to do with the software.
