Author Hand Held belt sander

I've tried a couple of hand held belt sander (e.g. sandcat, craftsman etc)
and I keep having the same problem--the belt will not stay on no matter how
it is adjusted. Can anyone give me a suggestion of a brand that works for
them?
Thanks
Jeff

The less expensive belt sanders tend to do this. I have
Porter-Cable and Makita that I have had good use out of
without belts wandering. Old belts will tend to do this also.

Black & Decker's model V-144, a 3in by 36in sander, has lasted about 20
yrs so far with no trouble. Given need for 2 of that size, I'd buy
another, if they are still available.

My Porter Cable has never had that problem. Or any other problem for
that matter.

I also have a porter cable, mine is a 3 x 21. Going on 25 years and works
like new.

Just a thought about your problem. Have you tried blowing out the dust and
debris with compressed air. The tracking mechanism can be affected by
debris.

Check the alignment of the back (driven) roller. I believe that worn
bearings can also cause this.
