| Is there any other State that has piles on building permits that AZ.? It is
putting the damper on use for what we want to build and the size of what wee
want.
Horse shelter: $50.00 for a max of 300 sqft. about (12x24). We have 3
horses. We wanted a 12x 80 run for the horses
and 10"awning for our walk.
Tack shed $50.00 12X24 Each// tool shed, extra hay storage for the hay
sales,
work shop $495.00 ? 28x44 Or under 1000 sqft $100.00 I will down size
to 22.5X44 to get it down to one hundred
dollars
Porch for house, covered porch, Ect, Ect, $ $ $ $ $ and don't forget
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
What ever we talked about at the planning and zoning was running up to 750 -
900 in fees.....
Were the hell does the money go? Salaries, new trucks. It sure does not go
for the roads.
The county has made me want to be a criminal by cheating them. It may be
cheaper.
Wait till I tell my wife what her horses are going to cost to keep again.

| Alot of that you can recoup by using the inspector to verify the job was
done right by the contractor before you pay, and when someone else buys
your place that they have a fair assurance it was built right and wont
fall down. Ive used inspectors to my advantage on crooks screwing up
jobs for court testimony, and of course the inspector I don`t pay a fee
to testify. If people used inspectors they would not get ripped off as
much. But the ones that really need their service are the uninformed and
those are the ones that get ripped off in the first place. But true,
fees are to high, its municipal revenue after all. But if there were not
inspectors people woud build anything anywhere they pleased.

As you pointed out later in your post, its the county, not AZ, that's
charging building permit fees.
Most counties in rural areas don't get involved with buildings in TX, just
the septic system. Its the municipalities that do that with buildings,
homes, and outbuildings. A county is not considered a municipality. TX
code provides that municipalities perform building inspections, and recoup
by fees.
Most municipal building inspectors won't give you more than a few minutes of
their time. They are usually overloaded, and do rather quick inspections,
overlooking alot in the process.

| Don't Move to Sonoma County California!!!!
Our 840sqft Granny unit has cost us so far over $7000 in Building & Permit
fees. I had to Pay $1500 to the local Schools. I really don't think my
In-Laws will be having any more children!!!
I don't know if you really recoup the cost of the fees when you sell the
house. Not here in our area... There are many non-permitted places for
sale and they are just sold As-Is and depending on how the place looks you
can get Top Dollar permit or not.
Though I do think its worth it in the long run. If you get caught building
without it they can make you tear it down and or pay the fees + Penalties

Many jurisdictions like their inspection departments to be either
self-funding or a profit center. My fees in North Carolina are similar.
If you are sweating a couple hundred dollars, then you are getting the wrong
animal. Heck, my feed and hay bill alone is close to $10 per day in the
winter. You need to buy pygmy goats. More entertaining but harder to ride.
Steve.
Lives on farm with 4 horses, 2 donkeys and 4 pygmy goats among others.
