I am going to build a deck within the next month and I am need some
advice on layout. It will be 29' long by 14' wide and 3' off the
ground. I have the ledger already attached to the house using a 2 x
10. I plan to use 2 x 10's for the joists spaced 12" on center because
I am using trex planking on a diagonal.
Every program I use adds a beam to the middle of the middle of the 14'
span but when I read the code I should be able to do it without, I plan
to use 5 6 X 6 posts to secure the opposite side of the ledger.
Any advice?

Don't know what program you are using but my copy of "Beamchek" says 2x10
Hem-fir #2 (the typical PT Deck wood) will work just fine on 12" centers
for 40 psf live load. You will get a stiffer deck if you cantilever the
joists 18" to 24" past the exterior support beam.
