Author Basement Plumbing for 1/2 Bath below Sewer Line

Does anyone have experience with installing a 1/2 bath in a basement in
which the waste needs to be pumped vertically 6 -7 feet to connect to the
drain line from above? In my house, the sewer line to the outside septic tank
is 4 foot above the basement floor. There are several products advertised
in various "Home Repair" type magazines designed for this purpose. Do they
work?

Thanks,
John

I'm not a plumber, but since you don't have any responses yet I'll take a
stab at it....

This is not a big deal. You need a discharge pump. I think its similar to
a sump pump, but made to handle toilet stuff. You'll need to vent it too.
My contractor "forgot" to put one in my basement and had to add it after the
floor was poured. He busted up maybe 2' diameter of my concrete floor, dug
it up, put in a receptacle (looks like a garbace can), and added the pipes.
Unlike a sump pump, it will have a sealed top. Yes these things work, but
flushable kiddie wipes can clog them. HTH,

What you'll install is something like this
<http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/ww...emId=1613542405>

I just installed this in my new home construction...and it will handle
all lower level waste water (laundry, 1 bath, and bar sink). While
I've never had one installed, my plumber highly recommends them when
gravity will not work. He also cautioned that you get what you pay for
with regards to quality of the pumping mechanism. BTW he's family and
a great person...not looking to stiff me.

S is right it is a sealed system, and the effulent is pumped into the
main septic line, and it's vented into the house sewer venting system.

Good luck to you!
