does the nec require a disconnect at the air handler of the ac system, its a
split system, the cond does have a disconnect..thanks tony

Yes. It must satisfy the requirements of being within sight of the air
handler. A single disconnect could be used for both a/c system
components, if it was possible to install it within sight of both (and
the branch circuit feeding it met other NEC requirements). Most
inspectors will also require some sort of proximity of the disconnect to
the controller/motors ('within sight' doesn't mean far, far away even if
you can still see it). Not many split systems are installed this way,
although I've seen a few that were).
