| In putting in a toilet in my workshop, can I run the vent pipe (4" PVC) from
the toilet up to the ceiling and then use a 90 and run it out the eaves,
instead of having to cut a hole in my ceiling and roof?

| It MUST go through the roof.

| Are you going to run a 4" vent? It's not necessary...2 will do ya
(easier to work through walls) and through the roof it'll hafta go!
Good luck,
Darwin

Around here, you can use 2" but a foot below the roof and through
the roof, it has to be 3" in case frost freezes over it. (Their
theory, not mine. I have never seen it.)

Just in case you guys are advising from a code standpoint, I am not governed
by any code. We are way out in the country, with no code countywide. My only
concern is if it will work the way I intend to do it. I'm using 4" PVC, went
up to the ceiling, turned left and went to the wall. I've stopped there for
the time being. What I want to know is if I run it through the wall, under
the eaves and then do a 90 upward for about 12" to 18", will it do the
venting job?

|
| Don't get a spark up there. Methane (sewer gas) gas will really
raise the roof. Some codes make sense.

What difference would it make if I got a spark there or somewhere else that
it came through the roof.
All I'm asking is will it work?

I'm sure it will vent the system...however flat horizontals in plumbing
are bad.
I'm also sure it would be butt ugly. Is there a specific reason you
don't want to go through the roof?

It's much shorter, 6', than what I've read are acceptable for 4" pipe, which
is suposedly 12'.

Ugly is not a concern. We are so far out in the country that we get our
email by UPS. Nobody is going to see it.

It's a metal roof and my previous experience with metal roofs just tells me
I don't want to go cutting holes in it.

| Well then by all means go for it! I can appreciate your take on metal
roofs...they certianly can be a PITA.
Best of luck to you!
