My slab is broken - not cracked - it's completely fractured. I can probe
down and detect the vapor barrier. The maximum seperation is about 1/4".
Does this present any "real" problems (like "stuff" or "things" coming up
from below? The house is slab-on-grade in Florida.

Ever heard of Radon?
If not you need to check it out.
