Author Seal underside of cedar decking?

I am getting ready to install my decking. Using 5/4 x 6 " cedar,
architectural knotty.

Some folks have told me that I should seal the underside before
installation.

Is this a good idea?

If so how long would I expect to extend the life of the deck by doing
so?

Also, we get lots of thunderstorms this time of year. How will the
cedar react to getting wet before applying the stain? Do I need to
worry about raised grain?

If I do then I will need to stain the tops in the garage before
installation, or pray for a dry day and stain the same day...

isn't the main reason for using the cedar because of how well it weathers? I
know its very soft & really easy to scar. I personally wouldn't use it on a
floor of any kind. it is gorgeous though!
