Basic Rule of Thumb $per Foot Basement Finishing

| New to the world of basements after moving north.
Have an opportunity to finish some basements. All slider doors and
windows are in place, heat/air conditioning, water heaters etc..
What do others find themselves charging, per foot or otherwise, for a
basic sheetrock/carpet + single bath finish? I would be adding
electrical receptacles and other minor things of that nature.
Any advice or recommendations appreciated.

$30,000 to $300,000.
If you want the pricing per square foot then figure $50-$250/s.f.
To be more precise would require a LOT more information.

I'm a licensed electrical contractor in New Jersey and have worked on a
number of finished basements. Are you planning to be a low bid fly by night
or did you want to build up a business and a reputation? I did a few
basements for a low bid guy until I realized what a low life he was. He
used to hide construction debris inside of the walls instead of paying for a
dumpster. I should have realized something was up when he first told me
most of his business was from flyers he sent out and not from referrals.
Here in New Jersey building permits are required for basement remodels and
all work not done by the homeowner must be from contractors with licenses.
This is an issue that usually comes up when people sell their house and the
buyer's attorney wants to see permits for the work.
The walls against the foundation need to be fire sealed from behind on top
and every ten feet horizontally.
You need to be careful when installing bathroom exhaust fans. There have
been instances where the vacuum created by the bath fan will draw air down
the chimney. Some may require a make up air duct to the furnace area for
this reason.
Bedrooms in the basement are required to have egress windows.
