Author worms in cucumbers

cucumber plants got really big and beautiful, and there are several
cucumbers on it, but noticed today that at least some of the cucumbers
have bore holes in them. I took one in the house, cut it up, and
throughout the cucumber (which was about 10 inches long) there are big
cavities, each having an inch long light green worm in it, looks a bit
like a caterpillar.

Any recommendations on how I should handle these? The cucumber isn't
even completely ripe and already it's pretty much eaten out.

Thanks,

-Charles

Just noticed as well that some of the vines were wilting and dying in
places. Cut the vine open, and there are what appear to be the same
worms in the vine. Squash Vine Borer worms? Greenish/Yellowish white
body, brown head?
