Is anyone growing this in UK? I read that it's hardy in this country but
would welcome some personal experiences.

There are several big ones growing on the wooded cliff faces around
here in Torquay. More importantly, (from your point of view) it grows
well at Kew, which is a good deal colder and with a shorter growing
season than either here or Landscove.

Winter min -2°C. Summer max 34°C.

And, despite the much lower rainfall at Kew, shows that it can
take soggy ground :-)

Thanks Dave (and Nick for your response, too) I have looked at Mulu's site
and they do it but don't have it in stock, so I've emailed asking when they
will get more. They describe it as hardy in UK and I know them to be very
good - but I do like to know of the experiences of others when it comes to
fairly expensive 'little' presents like this!

I have two 6-inch seedlings in the greenhouse atm. That doesn't help you
in the least ;-)

I've just seen Dave's reply - I'm not sure growing at Kew offers me much
hope in Yorkshire!

Well then, perhaps I should offer to take them off your hands, after all.

Meant to say that this reminded me of a customer who looked at the 100 yr
old Cedrus Atlanticus at the end of our garden and mused on whether it would
be possible for him to grow himself one just like it, starting from seed. I
asked him how long he was planning on living......
