We've received an email from someone asking for information on the above
plant. I've tried to reply several times but the email won't 'go'. In the
hope that the original writer will read this group at some point, I'm
posting my reply here:
"We are in the South Hams, South Devon and find that it is hardy with us.
It is planted in a border round the house, so probably gets some slight
protection in that way. We mulch it before frost sets in and it has come
back for the last four years, even if slow to start. In fact, one year we
thought we had lost it so planted another. We now have two doing very well,
having survived -5 in the way of frosts!
As to soil, it doesn't seem to be at all fussy. Ours in that part of the
garden drains reasonably well. Most plants are more likely to be killed by
prolonged cold and wet roots than by cold alone. If keeping it in the
conservatory, we would suggest that you don't water it unless it's nearly
dried out and then let it drain well after watering.
As it's in a conservatory, yours might not die back but ours in the garden
grow to nearly 5' each year and we find that many people have never seen it
before."
