| Hi group,
I have a small amount of a variety of potato that seems to have disappeared
off the market (Minerva). They have just been dug and I have them at present
in sand in my shed.
I want to use these as seed for the future, so please can anyone advise me
how to save and store this valuable (to me) stock of seed for next year?
Also does anyone in the group know of a seed supplier that might stock more
of this variety?

Minerva were implicated in an outbreak of ring rot two years ago.
Possibly this may explain their being taken off the market - due
to a shortage of supply if nothing else.

2003 stocks supplied from the outbreak farm
21. Three farms (2 in the Scilly Isles and 1 in Cornwall) had received
stocks of the Minerva variety (two stocks of 0.5 tonnes on the Scilly
Isles and one stock of 18 tonnes in Cornwall) around 31 October. These
stocks were placed under Notice until the remaining stock on the outbreak
farm had been sampled and tested at the rate of 4,000 (20x200) tubers.
The results were negative but, because of their link to the outbreak farm,
the stocks were designated as ?probably contaminated? and restrictions on
disposal were imposed, as described below. The vehicle used to transport
the seed was traced and cleaned as a precautionary measure.

I keep mine in the veggie section of the fridge.....temp. stays between 35
and 40 degrees F......H>
