Mainly for expats in NL. There is a Shepherd Neame Beer tent and
English wine tasting too!

Kent Festival in Lisse

Op tuingebied is Engeland bepaald niet slecht bedeeld, maar het
graafschap Kent spant wel de kroon. Deze 'Garden of England' staat
bekend om zijn tuinen en kastelen als Penshurst, Sissinghurst en Leeds
Castle.

Tuinen en kastelen die tuinliefhebbers en mensen met gevoel voor
historie maar al te graag bezoeken, gezien de grote parkeerterreinen
(voor touringcars) bij deze plaatsen.
Wie nog niet bekend is met dit graafschap in het zuidoosten van
Engeland, doet er goed aan om komend weekeinde naar Lisse af te
reizen, want daar wordt van 1 t/m 3 juli op Landgoed Kasteel Keukenhof
voor het eerst het Kent Festival gehouden.
Het hele festival staat in het teken van Kent, maar dat is niet alles,
de organisatie heeft de idee opgevat om klassieke muziek te combineren
met een show van Engelse tuinarchitectuur. Tijdens de openingstijden
van het festival wordt op diverse podia, zowel binnen als buiten het
kasteel, klassieke muziek ten gehore gebracht. Optredens zijn te
verwachten van het Salontrio La Bohème, blaaskwintet Garden Winds, het
Duo Anneli, Brabant Brass English Delight, de pianiste Rie Tanaka, de
cellist Roeland Duijne en Strijkkwartet Brabants Kamerorkest. De
onlangs gerestaureerde tuinen rond het prachtige landhuis uit de 17e
eeuw lenen zich er uitstekend voor om de bezoekers te laten zien hoe
de uitbundige Engelse tuinsfeer ook kan bloeien in zowel grote als
kleine Nederlandse tuinen.
Lady FitzWalter van Goodnestone Park, ook al zo'n benijdenswaardig
buiten, is uitgenodigd om de Engelse Cottage Gardens te jureren.
Diverse Nederlandse tuinclubs zijn namelijk uitgenodigd om op het
landgoed zo'n informele, typisch Engelse tuin met een afmeting van 5 x
10 meter te realiseren. Twintig verschillende tuinen, verspreid in
blokken van 4 à 5 tuinen, zijn verspreid over het landgoed te
bezichtigen. Het publiek kan hier ideeën opdoen voor de eigen tuin en
informatie verkrijgen van de diverse tuinclubs. Voor de prijswinnaars
staat er een bus gereed, voor een 3 daags bezoek brengt aan Kent.
Verder zijn er workshops bloemschikken waarvan de mooiste creaties als
showstuk in het kasteel te bewonderen zijn. Ogen en reukorganen worden
gestreeld door de beroemde Engelse - geurende - rozen die kwekerijen
meenemen. Er zijn valkendemonstraties en er is cider uit Biddenden te
koop. Ook bestaat de mogelijkheid om van een 'high tea' te genieten of
een pint te pakken in de pub.
Vrijdag is de 'Ladies Day'. Alle dames wordt verzocht met een fraai
hoofddeksel naar het festival te komen. De mooiste hoed zal worden
beloond met een weekend Kent voor 2 personen. In het kasteel is een
tentoonstelling over Kastelen en Landhuizen in Kent (Engeland),
terwijl 27 delen van de Britse Kroonjuwelen hier een prominente plaats
hebben gevonden. En last but not least: verspreid over het landgoed
staan pagodetenten rijk voorzien van lifestyle producenten van het
goede Engelse landleven, waar je naar hartelust kunt kijken en kopen.

Kent Festival op Landgoed Kasteel Keukenhof, Keukenhof 1, Lisse,
Vrijdag 1 juli van 12.00 tot 18.00 uur, zaterdag 2 juli van 10.00 tot
18.00 uur, zondag 3 juli van 11.00 tot 17.00 uur. Entree: 15 euro
p.p.p.d.. Kinderen tot 6 jaar gratis, kinderen 6 tot 14 jaar 5,00.
Passe-partout voor 2 dagen 25 euro voor volwassenen en 7,50 voor
kinderen. Er is ruime parkeergelegenheid. Trein: Station Hillegom en
verder met de speciale shuttle bus. Bus: Halte Keukenhofdreef te
Lisse, daarna nog ca. 15 minuten wandelen richting Keukenhof.

I'd like to go on ladies Day but do not posses a suitable 'head lid' :~))
