Care of Lawn in Autumn

Hi

I have had part of my lawn turfed this year, the rest of the lawn is
existing grass. I moved into the house last April, so only had the
money to get half of the lawn redone.

I'd really like to maintain the grass (both new and existing) to avoid
moss/weeds getting a grip over Winter.

I've been feeding the grass and used Evergreen to kill the moss earlier
in the year however there are still quite a lot of weeds in it, I
daresay they'll diminish in time.

I wondered if there's something I can do to limit the moss etc during
autumn/winter.

You can remove some moss with a lawn rake, and kill some with mosskiller
(basically iron sulphate), but unless you can improve the drainage, the moss
will keep returning every year. Moss thrives on lawns (like mine) which
retain water after it rains.

I am new to lawn care but i am learning and have some experience. I would
scarify the lawn (e.g. rake it) airate it, to airrate it can use a garden
folk, if your lawn is large then this will take a long time. You may find it
easier to pull the weeds out as well as using weed killer, lawn sand is good
but don't put to much on as it burns your lawn, cutting twice a week is also
good, i cut mine twice a week, one cut takes 10-20 minutes as i just rush
around, e.g. i don't strim and dont be to fussy about getting right up to
the edges, the second cut i spend more time.

don't do things like scarify it then weed and feed as i the lawn needs to
recover a little before it can take weed killer, the general rule is little
and often.
