My naked ladies (a sort of autumn crocus) that I got from the Azores in 1973
are in flower for the second time. Last time 1976. Thought you would all

Is this sort of autumn crocus known for taking long time-outs like this?
Quite interesting.

~~~~~~~~~~~
If you could replicate the conditions of '76 then you would find it
would bloom annually.It needs heat and drought such as England had regularly
in centuries past.
The saffron crocus needs a similar climate and used to flourish so well
in the east of England that regions were devoted , and named, for its
culture.
As has been said before~~"If global warming is to come, I hope it
hurries up!"
I think you will find that parts of Essex are still suitable for
flowering. I grow it under an Oak near to the bole facing south~~ It
usually works. It is a mediterranean plant.
Best Wishes Brian.
