Don't you mean 'Some gardening groups on Google' ?
This is a 'pre-Google' newsgroup from the ancient land of Usenet!

Some people think Google _is_ usenet. In the same way that some people
think the nice folks from the government* are here to help them.
I think I'll have eggs with my Spam.

| Google keeps an searchable archive of usenet groups. Similar to what
dejanews used to do:
http://groups.google.com/groups/dir...0&sel=33554433. If you're
relatively recent to the internet you've probably never heard of
usenet. groups.google.com is great if you don't have access to a
usenet news reader.
Clearly, his choice of group name is crap (and I don't know if google
will replicate these new groups to standard usenet servers) but I don't
think this is spam. What is he selling ?

Indeed they bought up Dejanews.

No ti doesn't, there is a procedure for creating new newsgroups. These
sort of Google Groups are really mailing lists like Yahoogroups.

| O.k first of all I am sorry if I offened any one on this list , I
posted on it because it came up in a google group search as another
google group , (and as the above person mentioned I call it a group
because it is the same as the yahoo groups,so the person who thinks
googla is just a search engine has no idea of this )
also i do not go under several different names just one James Cerwin
and if it comes up as James or cerwin at times that is not of my doing
but the person(s) who complained of that also thought I was kevin ? so
they don't pay much attention either.
I did not intend this to be spam , I thought this was a gardening group
and was looking to invite other people interested in gardening to some
other places to chat (not intened to take away from this or any other
message board/group or what ever you wish to call it)
I am not god (all questions and quireys will be answered. ) simply
means that my self and other mebers of the aboved mentioned groups will
try are best to help you out with any gardening rellated question you
may have .
I have posted this message in other groups hope ing that others might
be interested.
Again I am sorry some of you found this post unappeling and found it
nessasary to resort to the rude posts above , so do not worrie I will
not post in your news list or what ever it is , about any gardening
groups again.

I think Google have rather muddied the waters by using the Google Groups
name to refer to both the newsgroup archive and the email list service.

Some may call it muddying the waters but from where I'm standing it looks
pretty much like what Gardenbanter do....google are merely using posts to
usenet to hawk their cheesy wares, they have not created anything, they have
simply provided a bit of disk space for 'archiving'....go to their group
search and search for any post to this group with the search term 'bulbs' or
'flowers' and watch all the ads arrive, by allowing new 'groups' to be
created they are simply perpetuating this, sure Cerwin get's a free bit of
space, and google get even more ads placed, they have taken the yahoo crap
to new heights, or depths if you prefer :-p

So what? The alternative would probably be no such searchable usenet
archive. TBH, I don't even hardly notice the ads, very occasionally if
actually looking for product I might click on one.

<shrug> The provide a service for free, and fund it with advertising,
so what.
I find Yahoogroups provides a useful service for me, the adverts seem a
reasonable price to pay. - Website is crap, but emails with an ad on the
bottom don't cause me any problems.
