I could indeed. Many thanks to you and Dave. I have tried to find a

asking me for is the original title deeds to the land.

Thanks again, Dave. I really do hope I do NOT have to go to London - what a
dreary waste of time and money! It does seem strange that there's no Consul
anywhere in the west country. I'd have thought there might be one in
Bristol, for example.
(I've had to reply as above because for some reason, when I hit 'Reply' your

It did that to me too. I think it tries to strip the signature and
everything after it, and Dave posted after it. Maybe. I bodged it back in.
I guess you could just courier the documents to London, there are people in
the SW who would do that. I know, my bro is one. He's so skint he'd walk it
from Penzance at the moment.

I think that would take too long but thanks....!
I may have to do that courier stuff but what I really do need to get at is
exactly what the lawyer in Crete *wants*. Originally, I asked her if I
would need to go to London to the Embassy and she said "your English lawyer
should be able to do it" but now he's signed everything (I've faxed the docs
to her so she's seen them) she's asking for this Apostile again!
Fancy urg not having a Greek lawyer - we seem to have just about every other
profession on here!

But Apostile is an English legalese word, any legal beagle will know. If it
was a Greek word only I would never have heard of it!
Get it done, then /mutatis/ /mutandis/.
Tick.

Well, my Greek Cypriot English trained lawyer chum had never heard of it or
used it!

At present, it's a bit more 'mutabilis'. And that has run me out of my
stock of Latin!

That's because lawyers are like doctors (ie they should be shot). No,
really, most of them specialise because of the complexity and amount of the
law (lawyers, not doctors). One who deals with this sort of thing will
definitely know the word. I know that, because I do. I wish I knew why,
maybe I was a Cypriot lawyer in a previous existence! But more likely I read
it in something, which narrows it down to a deeply technical and most boring
book about stuff, or something by Delia Smith. And I have a sponge for a
brain.
And a liver, come to that :-)

Try variant spelling Apostille
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apostille
which has some reference to the 1961 Hague convention...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hague_...he_Requirement_
for_Legalisation_for_Foreign_Public_Documents
I reckon that since Greece signed the convention, you should be able
to get your lawyer or local notary, clerk of court, bishop, primary
school teacher or someone to do it.

Thanks, everyone. I've now emailed my UK lawyer with the info Kay posted
and asked him if he can handle this!

Sacha, I've only just read this thread. If you get stuck, my daughter-in-law
is half Greek and I can ask her. Her parents certainly have/had land in
Greece, so they may know. I think your UK lawyer is certainly the first step
though!

Sally, thank you so much! I can say no more than 'watch this space'.
Honestly - what a palaver this is!
