| We saw a very pretty ivy the other day that we didn't recognise. It was a
middling sized leaf, the points quite sharply defined and the colour was a
bright green middle with a dusty green outer edge.

Could be a hedera helix 'Gold Heart' or 'Buttercup', these two are the
most popular with the variegation the other way around, dark centred
with yellow on the edges.

As I said it's two colours of green, not green with yellow.

I've had a look and thanks for the idea, Charlie. But I can't see it there.
If I could only remember where we saw it.....!

That's where I refer too when I want something different for a design
I do. There's also some wonderful american websites to peruse. They
seem to like hederas for some reason. The thing is there's less 'light
heart' and dark edges hederas than dark heart and light coloured
edges, hence my thought on the two above which both have a light heart
and dark edges as Sacha query.

I get you. Knowing that you also are very observant, what with your
job etc. I'd imagine you didn't think that as the hedera progressed up
where you've seen it, unless it was a ground cover, it might have
changed colour progressively from light green to yellow. I'm saying
this because with age it is very difficult to id hederas, and also
with sun/shade factor and soil condition they do change colours. Mine
do all the time.
When I worked in Reddish, we've spent sometime looking at ivies, and
depending on pruning, some flowered quicker than others - it wasn't an
age thing at all as we might think - and also undergrowth were all
yellow rather than variegated on the variegated species. Hedera Eva
for example is two tone green when little and as it progresses turns
more yellow.

Both the ivies you offered have yellow on them. We grow one of them
ourselves and sell both, among others. The ivy I described has no yellow on
it so I didn't mention the word 'yellow'. If yellow had been present
anywhere on the plant, I would certainly have said so to assist the ID.

Thanks, Jennifer. I'll have a dig through that - the collection is sizable!
At first glance, I don't see it, though. In the meantime, given the way
things are developing, I think I better drop this subject!
