David,
Remax offices are all(to my knowledge) independantly owned and
operated, meaning each individual broker can charge the agent whatever
they wish.
Most agents that I know steer clear of any broker that charges desk
fees, regardless of the commission split.
The only way I can see that paying the desk fee makes sense is if the
office furnishes you with bona fide buyer and seller leads, provides
all office supplies and equipment, provides errors and omissions
insurance, and that you close 3 or 4 transactions a month, every month
of the year. Otheriwse, the number just don't add up.
Are you dead set on ReMax? Are they the only game in town for your
area?
I've heard nothing but horror stories regarding ReMax offices and their
excessive fees.
Just make sure you know what you're getting into.
