Incentives: Buy a condo, get a new car free! A sign of the times?

A flyer in today's St Paul, MN newspaper offers a free 2007 Mazda 3i or
Ford Focus SE with the purchase of a new condo, with prices starting in
the 180s. Also, they are offering a free buffet for lookers, wine
tasting and live music.

My question: Is this just a great promotion, or a sign of desperation?
Coincidentally, the same newspaper also had a news story stating that
home sales in the metro area are down 19% from a year ago. Active
listings, on the other hand, were up 40%!

What a change a couple of years, and a couple of higher interest rate
points have made. Norskey
