inspection of new home from builder?

| My real estate agent suggests that I should have home inspection done even
for new homes from builders due to the fact that some builders built in a
hurry. This is in Texas. Is it common to have home inspection done for new
homes for reason stated? Thank you.

I would do it, prior to the final walk thru and acceptance of the property.
Money well spent to be sure of no known issues that the inspector could
possibly find. I heard of one that the fire place flue was not connected.
Could have been a real problem when a person fired it up. Be sure to call
around and get an estimate on what they would charge. Homes are built by
people and even though they try their very best, mistakes can happen.
Enjoy your new home!

Peter,
As a REALTOR who works with a builder, I will tell you that you should
ALWAYS protect your interests. It may cost you (about $400 here in
Oregon, not sure what the rate is in TX), but it is truly money well
spent. Most builders are reputable, and the building code inspectors
do the best job they can, but in the end, they are not working for your
best interests, and everyone makes mistakes. I would also add that it
DEPENDS on what your builder offers as a warranty program.
Good luck.
