Compensating Agent

| I have a Real Estate Agent that I have been using for several years.
Often I drive around looking at properties I may be interested in, and
some times I will make initial inquiries to the listing agent. If I
decide to go further with the property, I go back to my agent and make
an offer.
One of the listing agents of a house I looked at took my email address
and started sending me links to properties on the MLRS. I thought he
was going to send me links for properties that he was the listing
agent of. There was a property that peaked my interest and I contacted
my agent and I am going to try to purchase the property. I found out
that he is not the listing agent. I am not sure how to treat/
compensate him....or if I need to.
I feel I should compensate him for the pointer, but it was never my
intention to use him as my agent. I have never had any sit down talks
with him. When he said he was going to send me properties, I thought
they were his that he was the listing agent of. I did not contact him
to see the property that I am trying to purchase. All he did was send
me the email. How do you think I should handle this? What do you
think is fair compensation?

| Too bad the listing agent wasted their time by attempting to earn your
business by sending you home listing information. You should been up front
from the beginning and disclosed you were working with another agent.
