How to learn the very basics?
|
|
|
| Hi,
I have a friend who is interested in learning about real estate, but
doesn't know what to learn or what to even try to learn. In trying
to learn the basics about it, at this time our interpretation is that
there are overall two approaches to take:
1. He could try to get money and work with property that he
would be resposible for paying back.
2. He could try to learn something that would be a service
other people would pay him for, like becomming an inspector
or appraiser of some type(s).
At this point of ignorant pondering it seems that approach 2. would
be best to attempt at first, in order to establish a financial and also
educational foundation from which to attempt moving on to 1., which
could bring in considerably more money.
Can anyone recommend any good books and/or websites that would
help with learning the basics, and help him figure out what to study
to begin with?
Thanks for any help or advice!

Your friend could also become a Real Estate Agent.
Generally Real Estate Agents and Appraisers are licensed by state
agencies ... I suspect a Google search would clarify that for you.
Inspectors are also sometimes licensed ... sometimes not.
Generally, Real Estate Agents and Appraisers have to complete required
coursework and then take an examination. In my state (Minnesota),
appraisers must work under the direct supervision of another licensed
appraiser. Agents -- regardless of experience -- must be affiliated
with a Broker that is required to supervise the Agent's work. Again,
once you find out what agency licenses agents and/or appraisers, you
should be able to ask for guidance as to what educational requirements
exist, the process to secure a license, etc.
