Home theater rec?

Hi,

I've been looking around for home theatre setups, and just getting
confused by the multiple terminology out there.

Basically, I'd like to get a complete TV / theatre system for $1500
total. I don't have HDTV right now, but that's definitly something I
want. I'd also like to get 5-speaker (5.1 I think it is, 5 speakers +
subwoofer), a DVD player, and preferably something that will also play
CDs and MP3s.

I really don't want to just wander into best buy and pick up whatever
is there. I see HDTV sets that have all kinds of connections, and not
sure of which is best for what. I also see AV receivers that would
appear to make the TV connections somewhat of a mute point.

Any recommendations for a total solution?
