Whisper mode, ViewSonic PJ550 - help requested

Two questions for anyone familiar with the PJ550:

1. When you turn on the power, then hold 'reset' for 3 seconds, a lamp
time comes up. Is the number shown hours on the lamp, or hours
remaining?

2. If 'whisper mode' is used regularly, the expected lamp life increases
from 2000 hrs to 4000 hrs. When the projector keeps track of lamp hours,
does it automatically adjust for the use of whisper mode?

I've had a PJ550 for a couple years, and am very satisfied with it. Out
of curiosity, I did a lamp life check the other day, and expected to see
a number like "2500 hours remaining", based on estimated use. The number
that came up was 375, which surprised me.

Can anyone please shed some light on this? (I tried ViewSonic help, but
did not get a knowledgeable person.)
