Replacement recommendations...

| Hey there... I've never posted to this newsgroup before. I'm by no
means an audiophile, but I am inerested in getting the best home theater
receiver or combo I can afford. About a month ago we have a lightining
strike at our house and one of the items that got fried was the home theater
receiver. This was a Sony STR-K840P which was purchase with part of a home
theater in a box package. To my knowledge, the speakers survived the hit,
but the receiver won't even turn on. The 5 disc DVD player also survived
the hit, so I'm really only looking to replace the receiver.
All that said, I'm expecting that the insurance will pay out maybe
$300-400 for the replacement of the receiver. So, I'm really looking to
replace the receiver with the best setup I can get in that price range.
Obviously this rules out the high end stuff like Bose, so what's the best I
can do? I have a Best Buy just up the street from me, and there is a Fry's
within driving distance so I have some flexibility.
Thanks in advance.

Man, I'm covering my ears for all the shouting, spitting, and hissy-fittin'
that's about to follow.
Me, I like Denon and Yamaha. But truth be told, go and listen to stuff at
the stores then pick out what sounds best to you for your budget range.

This is good advice all around. Buy what sounds good to you.

| FWIW Don't do Bose, even if you find a deal you can afford.
