The egg. The mutation that created the chicken would have first showed
itself in the egg.

The egg came first. It took evolution millions of years to get eggs to
switch from producing dinosaurs and other reptiles to making chickens.

The egg was followed by the omelette.

The egg.

I always start my day with an egg. later, I might have the chicken for
lunch or dinner, but I never eat chicken for breakfast, so the egg is
always first.
