A neutron goes into a bar and orders a beer.
I asked the bartender how a neutron can pay for a beer.
The bartender replied, for him it's always no charge.

Q: What did the cathode say to the anode?
A: You're always so negative.

A little drift from EEs to programmers but engineers would appreciate this
one:
- Did you hear about the programmer who mysteriously didn't report for work?
His body was found in the shower with the water still running and a bottle
on the floor. The instructions on the bottle said, "Apply shampoo. Lather.
Rinse. Repeat."

| Not an engineering/software joke, but:
Rene Descartes is siting in a bar, having a beer. Upon finishing, the
bartender asks, "Hey buddy, do you want another one?"
Descartes replies, "I think not" and promptly disappears.

To nit a pick, this is not true. For a secondary cell, when you go from
charge to discharge, anode and cathode electrodes switch sides, so to speak.

Not everything with anodes and cathodes are secondary cells, Bill.
I never know whether to feel happy or sad for you over the "18 months to
go" - Should I feel happy that something you are looking forward to
doing is fast approaching? Or sad because something you are enduring
still has months to go?
Whatever, I do hope it all works out well for you.

True. In a Leclanche (carbon zinc dry) cell, the zinc is negative. The zinc
is the anode where corrosion takes place. That is, the zinc loses electrons
that go into the external circuitry thereby turning into positively charged
soluble anions. The cathode of such a cell is the positive carbon rod.
Zinc is often used to protect steel (galvanizing) because it is more active
than iron. It prevents rusting of the steel because it is able to turn the
otherwise anodic iron into a cathode because the zinc is a stronger
sacrificial anode than the iron.
