Hi -

I've been impressed my much of what I have read here in this group.
I'm sure that there is someone with the background who can help me.
Our company is looking for a senior level Staff Electrical Engineer to
join the corporate engineering group at the company headquarters in
Westchester, IL. I'm pasting a job description below. If anyone is

The Staff Electrical Engineer will provide a broad range of electrical
engineering expertise and technical support to all the divisions in
support of their production, quality and business goals. This
includes electrical power generation and distribution systems,
electrical equipment optimization and troubleshooting, review of
potential projects, and support during major project implementation.

Key Result Areas:
1. Provide electrical engineering and technical expertise to ensure
the safe and reliable operation of electric power systems in
processing facilities worldwide. This includes; electrical power
systems and equipment optimization and troubleshooting; equipment
design, specification and selection; due diligence studies; consulting
on safety, regulatory, risk management, maintenance, testing and
utilities.
2. Originate plans and develop strategies for power systems worldwide
to ensure electrical reliability and safety in the most cost effective
manner.
3. Provides electrical engineering and project management expertise
in support of projects, to ensure stated quality, operational, safety,
schedule and budget objectives are met.
4. Provides consulting and troubleshooting expertise to solve complex
technical electrical problems in support of the business needs of the
manufacturing facilities. Also support the Regulatory Affairs, Risk
Management and Quality Assurance Departments regarding worldwide
electrical issues.
5. Perform power systems studies for existing and proposed facilities
in order to optimize electrical system reliability and personnel
safety. This includes reliability, load demand, load flow, short
circuit, protective device coordination, and Arc Flash Hazard
studies. Manage direct outside resource to conduct other electrical
studies such as transient stability and harmonic analysis.
6. Review and evaluate proposed projects as requested to ensure
optimum technology, complete scope, and alignment with business goals.
7. Maintain a high level of awareness of current and emerging
technology that will maintain or improve the company's
competitiveness. Evaluate those technologies and make recommendations
on their application to improve safety, reliability and profitability
of operations worldwide.
8. Maintain the company's technical intellectual property to ensure
the company's competitiveness through proper record retention,
mentoring engineers, and preparation and distribution of best
practices and design manuals in the electrical area.

Selection Criteria
1. Significant knowledge of electric power generation and
distribution systems engineering and design as demonstrated by 15 plus
years in this field of technical expertise.
2. Established experience in development and implementation of power
and control system strategies for both new and existing electrical
systems. Proven ability to perform power system studies including
reliability analysis, load flow, short circuit, protective device
coordination, and arc flash hazard.
3. Proven experience in troubleshooting electrical system problems
involving complicated protective relaying systems, generator controls,
and electrical equipment such as circuit breakers, variable frequency
drives, and uninterruptible power supplies.
4. Demonstrated ability to analyze and solve complex electrical
technical problems as applied to facilities design, equipment failures
and maintenance troubleshooting.
5. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present
designs and study results, and to prepare effective and concise
written reports.
6. Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work
effectively with experienced and beginning engineers.
7. Demonstrated degree of sound judgment, resourcefulness,
initiative, and innovation in handling complex technical assignments,
with minimal supervision.
8. Travel will constitute an average of 20 percent of the time on the
job and may consist of several consecutive days to any of the company
facilities including international locations.
9. Fluency in English required. A working knowledge of a Latin or
Asian language would be a plus.
10. Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering with a minimum of 15
years experience. A Masters degree in Electrical Engineering would be
a plus.

PAY? You guys are always leaving out the pay like discussing money is
taboo. And perks, too. How many perks? And taxes? If this job is
overseas federal income taxes may not have to be paid.

Hello, and those are important aspects. If the OP is going to use usenet
as a cheap way to advertise a job vacancy then I think the announcement
should be crafted in the traditional manner and that includes starting
salary (or salary range) and benefits. (I hope the OP isn't relying solely
on usenet to get the word out.) Sincerely,

I see things a little differently. First, I don't even look at
Usenet job postings. I don't work for anyone who's that hard up.
There is usually a reason. I also don't often see salaries posted
for job openings. It's usually listed as PBOE, or huge ranges, if at
all. I'm not at all turned off by the lack of salary ranges. It's
pretty evident during the first conversation whether the proposed
salary is going to be even worth negotiating. While salary is
important, it's not in the top four, AFAIC. Any half-assed employer
is going to be paying in the same range for the same experience. If
they're not (either half-assed or paying in the same range) I'm not
likely to work for them anyway. I'm just as choosy as they are. ;-)
