Requirements for emergency stop on machinery

| Hi all,
I am about to renovate some old machinery which needs addition of an
emergency stop. Our machine is compliant with EN60204-1 which states
some simple requirements for this function.
It does however not mention wether a safety relay is needed or how many
circuits the emergency stop switch should have ?
Where can i find more specific requirement for this ?
Or alternatively if i make the stop work as defined in EN60204-1 is
that then all that=B4s needed ?
Marketplace for machinery are mainly EU and in time also USA.
B=2ERgds.

If your machine already has a CE mark you need to decide if any modifications
you make will involve a change to the original risk assessment - ie are there
any new risks as a result of your mod? You should have access to the original
Technical Construction File (TCF).
If it is an old machine without CE mark and you are renovating it you may need
to do a new risk assessment and decide what category or SIL level is
appropriate. You will then need to address the risk with suitable guarding,
two-hand control etc. Consequently you may need to supply approved components -
force-guided safety contactors/relays, specialist safety relays or programmable
systems etc.
There are many companies specialising in this area - Look for Pilz, Schmersal,
Guardmaster (part of Allen-Bradley now), Dold, Schneider etc.

| go to google
type in
"list of directives"
take the first match: Europa --- Enterprise
result:
you will see an overview about all CE directives
go to the link
"machinery"
this opens a side with all relevant EN-standards relating machinery
search for the word: emergency
you will find EN 418
unfort. you cannot download EN 418 ;-(
so buy it or organize it
another useful link to a very important guideline written by the
machinery working group:
http://europa.eu.int/comm/enterpris...ide/content.htm
d/l the English version and go to page 110 point 364 ff.
Hope this helps.
